Weekend Roundup: What to do this weekend

By Hannah Manning on January 5, 2017

Welcome to 2017, Ottawa! This is going to a big year with Canada celebrating 150 years since Confederation, and the National Capital Region is the place to be. With events aplenty throughout the year in Ottawa and Gatineau, check back often for what’s happening around town. Here’s a guide to get you started!

This is your last chance to enjoy Christmas lights around the city so if you haven’t yet been for a walk in our winter wonderland, don’t delay! You have until Saturday night to take in the lights.

This is also the final weekend of the Napoleon and Paris exhibition at the Canadian Museum of History. If you visit the museum Thursday, your admission is free!

Looking for something legendary? Head to Live! On Elgin for How I Met Your Mother trivia night. Tickets are $5 at the door, $2 if you come in costume.

Enjoy poetry? Like pancakes? This is the event for you! Urban Legends Poetry Collective is bringing together Poets and Pancakes at Flapjack’s Pancake Shack.

Babylon is hosting Double Barrel with DJ Magnificent and Trevor Walker Friday night.

Beer’N’Board Games takes over The Hintonburg Public House as of 1pm – bring your own games or try something new there.

Juno nominated heavy metal band Skull Fist will be at Mavericks Saturday night.

Head to Bar Robo for Hottawa where Seiiizmik and Halpo will help you ring in the new year with a combo of hip-hop, dancehall, and house.

Ottawa locals Jad and Grace Note, along with percussionist and composer Andrea MacWilliams, will be at Bar Robo Sunday evening for their first collaborative musical event.

Looking to get fit in 2017? Want to try something new? Azucar! Latin Dance Company is having an open house with free dance classes.
