Weekend Roundup: What to do this weekend?

By Hannah Manning on July 14, 2016

It’s the last weekend of Bluesfest and there’s something for everyone! Coleman Hell, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Zeds Dead perform Friday night. Saturday options include Wolf Parade, Nelly, and Duran Duran. Closing down the festival Sunday is City and Colour. Lots of great local bands, like The Peptides, The Powergoats, and The Red Rails, are taking the stage as well so be sure to check the full schedule.

This Friday, all parks in Ontario are free. There are lots of great parks a short drive from Ottawa so check the map and enjoy!

On Saturday, North Dal is hosting 5 blocks of summer fun from Murray to Cathcart along Dalhousie Street. Billed as Ottawa’s dynamic shopping district, Dalhousie Street has seen an influx of new shops, cafes and restaurants in recent years. Be sure to stop by and take advantage of sidewalk sales and specials while supporting local!

One of the biggest summer events takes place this weekend at Mooney’s Bay: HOPE volleyball summerfest. While registration is full, you can still head to the beach to enjoy the sun and some tunes.

As a huge fan of ice cream, I’m very excited for the Ice Cream Festival at the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum on Sunday. Events are taking place all day so stop by, learn a bit and enjoy a cone.

There are two more great reasons to get outside this weekend. Bear and Company’s Macbeth continues this weekend with outdoor shows in parks around Ottawa. It’s getting great reviews so don’t miss out. The Parliament Hill sound and light show kicked off last weekend and plays nightly until September.
