It’s been an unimaginable past few weeks in Ottawa. We’ve been anxious, locked-down, and deeply saddened. However, our resolve to celebrate the best of Ottawa and our commitment to keeping our city happy and healthy has never been stronger. More than anything else, we offer our thanks to friends, families, and locals who became leaders when they stepped up to the plate for their neighbours in Centretown, Vanier, Lowertown, and everywhere affected by the “Freedom Convoy” occupation.
We know that Ottawa will not let acts of violence and bigotry define us. We will think hard about how something like this could have happened, but we will continue to live with the optimism and hopefulness for which we are known.
In that spirit, we hope that you’ll help us share the love in Ottawa. We’re preparing a special print run of our Support Local Month poster, created a decade ago, that still captures our feelings for Ottawa today. We hope you’ll help us plaster the city we love with the message it deserves.
We have a downloadable poster that’s ready to print at home. Download it. Print it freely. Hang it at your favourite business, in your home office, on your fridge, or anywhere else that needs a little love this week.
We’re hoping that before downloading your poster, you’ll consider making a donation to the Canadian Anti-Hate Network, an independent nonprofit organization that monitors, researches, and counters hate groups by providing education and information on hate groups to the public, media, researchers, courts, law enforcement, and community groups. Alternatively, we hope that you’ll give to another one of the many charities in Ottawa that help make our neighbourhoods strong — and there are many to support and celebrate. Post in the comments about where you’re donating to help us spread the word.
Let’s remember the good and celebrate what’s great. Let’s love our city when it needs us the most.
