Video of the Week: “Lees Avenue No 3 – Lumen” by Merganzer and Timothy I. Smith

By Greggory Clark on June 3, 2020

Merganzer is an experimental music project by Mika Posen (formerly of Timber Timbre and Agnes Obel), an Ottawa violinist who describes her work as “pop-noir and minimalist instrumental pieces” and often collaborates with other media artists, including Ottawa’s Timothy I. Smith on this video, “Lees Avenue No 3 – Lumen.”

Posen says the video was made several years ago, but she just  recently wrote music to accompany it. Ottawans may recognize the 1970s era building, which has been redesigned and renovated since the video was shot. It’s moody and meditative and calming—all things we need right now.

Watch it in the player below.

Correction: An earlier version of this post said the apartment building was demolished. It was actually retrofitted. Here’s what it looks like now.
