Video of the Week: “Laura Palmer’s Theme” by the Ottawa Guitar Trio

By Greggory Clark on April 14, 2021

It would seem we’re playing favourites… the Ottawa Guitar Trio has been featured as Apartment613’s Video of the Week already this year… Really though, the OGT is so dang prolific! A new upload of theirs is almost always in the mix for the blog editors’ Video of the Week pick, given how frequently they arrange and record these YouTube covers.

The classical guitar trio has been on a tear since the pandemic began affecting Ottawa; recording music from Final Fantasy, Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, Super Mario Bros, Animal Crossing, Metroid, Sonic, and so many more soundtracks. Subscribe to their YouTube channel for more video game and movie soundtracks weekly. Every upload includes sheet music, so practising musicians can play along.

This week’s arrangement is a tune from the 1990’s cult-classic David Lynch series, Twin Peaks. Fans know Angelo Badalamenti’s soundtrack for the tv show is one of those soundtracks which stands alone as a remarkable album itself. While Badalamenti composed the original music on a Fender Rhodes and synthesizers, this may be your first chance to hear music from Twin Peaks arranged for classical guitar.

Spoiler: It sounds beautiful, and the OGT’s decision to bookend this video with Badalamenti’s somewhat comical interview footage is a special treat for fans of the show.
