“Hold My Breath” is a new single by local folk and roots singer-songwriter Lynne Hanson. The two-time Canadian Folk Music Award winner says that while the single is not a “pandemic song,” it was inspired by “friendship, connection, and living in the moment,” according to a statement on her website.
Lynne co-wrote the song in January with Ottawa session musician Blair Michael Hogan. Blair had sent Lynne instrumental tracks for inspiration, and one of those tracks became the foundation upon which “Hold My Breath” was developed.
In this music video, Lynne can be seen performing her song interspersed with archival family footage. In an interview with Glide Magazine, Lynne explained that the music video’s director Tyler Williams suggested the inclusion of 8mm film footage of a bygone family vacation that he inherited from a relative. “We didn’t even know what was on the film before we played it at the shoot, so it was really cool that some of the images in the reels seemed to line up with the story in the lyrics of the song,” says Lynne.
