Video of the Week: “Go On” by Paper Beat Scissors

By Apartment613 on November 4, 2020

Although based in Montreal, UK-born songwriter Paper Beat Scissors (aka Tim Crabtree) has a very close connection to Ottawa. In fact, Paper Beat Scissors performed at the Apartment613 launch party, our first-ever event, at Raw Sugar Café in Chinatown (R.I.P.) on 6/13 Day in 2009.

This recent virtual collab features Ottawa’s Yolande Laroche (Pony Girl, Orchidae, mal/aimé) on the clarinet, as well as Hilda Cowie of the NAC Orchestra on double bass.

“With the restrictions and shifting lockdown situations, in-person music playing remains, sadly, a teary-eyed memory,” says Crabtree. “I really miss playing with people, so I’ve been finding ways to keep musical people in my musical life!”

For now, enjoy this reworking of the title track from 2015’s Go On record, with a sprinkling of musicians from Ottawa and abroad.
