In the last week, summersets, the new duo composed of Kalle Mattson and Andrew Sowka, released their debut EP small town saturday. The six-song EP is a sign of things to come, as the duo has indicated they’re working toward a full-length summersets album with producer and frequent collaborator Jim Bryson.
Taking cues from the late ’60s and early ’70s singer-songwriter vibe of this record, its lead track “fake flowers” has a music video created with found footage from the same era. “We wanted the videos to feel like the era of music that we were influenced by for summersets,” says Mattson, whose references for the project include songwriters like Paul Simon, Harry Nilsson, John Prine, and Joni Mitchell.
