The TRIAS Art Prize is the newest, biggest, shiniest local art prize in Ottawa—apply until July 30

By Ottawa Art Gallery on June 24, 2022

The Ottawa Art Gallery and The Ottawa Hospital introduce the TRIAS art prize, made up of three awards totalling $40,000.

Launching this year, the TRIAS Art Prize will highlight the power of art and the artist’s role in healing and wellness in three award categories: Art and Science Residency, Indigenous and Inuit Healing, and Art as Healing. Brought together by the Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG), The Ottawa Hospital (TOH), and community support, the prize aims to rejuvenate and reignite the Ottawa-Gatineau and surrounding community, inspire creativity initiatives in the hospital environment and, simply said, infuse TOH public spaces with art.

Research has shown that including and integrating art in the healing setting is beneficial and can help reduce stress and encourage faster recovery, not to mention the humanizing effect it can have on patients and their families, as well as on healthcare staff and the hospital context in general.

The application process is now open, and the deadline is July 30, 2022. Do you know an artist from the regions served by The Ottawa Hospital (Ottawa, Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec and Nunavut) who has a community-based practice or whose artworks explore healing, renewal, and community? Tell them to apply, or apply yourself, and stay tuned for the announcement of winners this fall!
