New Year’s eve in Ottawa is not going to be the same again for those who attend the Gatsby New Year’s Ball, which is expected to be the most glamorous party in town this week.
The organizers, Tami Varma, Scott Porter, Sam Patil and Poppy Vineberg, expert party planners, wanted to create the biggest new year’s event this city has ever seen. They secured the Former Grand Trunk Union Railway Station (now the Canada Conference Centre) and will transport the building back to its glory days.
I spoke to Poppy Vineberg about the event and she gave more juicy details than what is on the event web page at present! “We’re planning different vibes in two different rooms with two live bands, two deejays and other performances. We hired an architect to help stage the place and create the Gatsby vibe. We had to build everything including bars and bottle service areas because the space was not really intended for this purpose.”
Women will look lovely in sparkling 1920’s inspired dresses and jewels and men will be looking dapper in suits, suspenders and hats. Hepkat Vintage has kindly offered assistance to help outfit and accessorize party-goers. They are opening their doors before their own official opening for any guests attending the Ball. To book a fitting, contact them on their Facebook page.
The event is nearly sold out, so if you want to go and haven’t got your tickets yet, you should act fast. The response has been pretty incredible given that ticket sales were only launched earlier this month. A portion of the event’s proceeds will also provide funding for the Caring and Sharing Exchange a local charity that has been helping people in Ottawa since 1915.
The Gatsby New Year’s Ball will take place this Tuesday, December 31st at 2 Rideau Street. (Colonel By entrance). Only VIP tickets remain (cost $115), but they come with a lot of great perks and goodies. For more information, please visit: http://www.nationalcapitalgala.com/
