Takeout Talk: What are you ordering this weekend?

By Apartment613 on February 19, 2021

In this weekly feature, Apt613 asks blog contributors and local figures about their takeout habits and highlights—to help you find new tasty treats to discover or revisit when you’re just OVER IT with making dinner. We want to hear about takeout you loved! Leave comments below and if you’d like to contribute to a future edition of Takeout Talk, email <>. We’d also love to publish your food photos at the top of future columns so snap a landscape-oriented shot and send it over to us! We’ll credit your mad photo skills.

The South Keys and surrounding area, despite maybe conjuring images of big box stores, has a wonderful selection of independent restaurants. One of my go-to places is Moe’s BBQ at the corner of Bank and Hunt Club. It’s southern-style BBQ that’s also Halal! I’ve had most things on the menu and all are delicious. I especially love their brisket and sides like macaroni and cheese. Of course, you can’t go wrong with a topped poutine (brisket, chicken, etc.) if you want a bit of everything!

Over on Walkley Road is one of my top 10 restaurants in all of Ottawa – Aiyara! While I do miss their excellent indoor service and lovely dining room, their takeout/delivery is fantastic and there’s really no way to go wrong with anything on their menu. Other than a classic pad Thai (order spiciness by the number of stars!) one of my favourites is the Gaeng Mas-Sa-Man, a brown curry that is just so flavourful and comforting. My father-in-law, every time he’s in town and we go, always gets the hot and sour soup. Of course, we have to get their delicious and crispy spring rolls too!

Friday is usually pizza night at our place. Even if we’ve been getting pretty good at making our own dough throughout the pandemic, there’s one place I still get MAJOR cravings for: Farinella. They hooked me in with their wood-fired, Roman-style pizza, which they serve by the meter or half-meter (the novelty of carrying a meter-long box of pizza alone is worth it). They’ve kept me coming back for their countless flavours of homemade gelato and their out-of-this-world pan pizza.

Fair warning, you have to call your order in ahead of time for curbside pickup and their phone lines are always really busy. Smashing the redial button and figuring out how to fit that giant box in your car is just part of the fun at Farinella.
