#Support613 Gift Guide: For local sports fans

By Greggory Clark and Josh Lemoine on December 15, 2020

Part 18 of our local holiday gift guide covers all the bases for Ottawa sports fans on your list.

With our gift guide series in full swing and Apt613 writers going to bat for local businesses this season, it’s a shocker that our blog has yet to pitch gift ideas for local sports fans! These presents are sure to be a home run for supporters of each club, so we’ve arranged them in batting order from A to Z. Alas, no amount of baseball puns will help the Ottawa Titans get merch to market. The new pro team was announced on November 30 but has yet to launch an online store.

Atlético Ottawa

The capital’s new soccer club is offering 40% off jerseys and 30% off everything else from scarves and toques to hoodies and masks. Cloth face masks come in two packs at $19.99 (plus taxes and shipping) with all net proceeds going to the Ottawa Food Bank.

Apt613 Pick: Their black and red 2020 Away Kit, which features a skyline silhouette of Parliament Hill.

Dominion City

Yup, the brewing company. They make great beers and Dominion City’s merch game is on point too. Among the retro-looking shirts and hats, DCBC came out with two rugby jerseys this year.

Apt613 Pick: Our favourite is the black and red Fightin’ Geese jersey, made in Canada by Barbarian Sports Wear. The Fightin’ Geese are a totally fictional club whose name and logo appear on limited edition DCBC merch now and then.

Ottawa Aces

Ottawa’s professional rugby team has yet to play a match at TD Place—and will wait until 2022 to join the UK-based League One competition—however, rugby fans in town are already quite supportive of the club, coached by French international Laurent Frayssinous.

Apt613 Pick: In absence of an official jersey to be unveiled in 2021, the Aces have technical gear like zip tops and exercise pants in their online store. Great for runners and athletes on your shopping list.

Ottawa Blackjacks

Along with Atlético Ottawa and the Ottawa Aces, The Blackjacks basketball team is another start-up at the front of Ottawa’s pro sports renaissance, playing their first competitive games in the CEBL behind closed doors this summer.

Apt613 Pick: Any one of the New Era ball caps, which retail from $30 to $40.

Ottawa Redblacks

Ottawa’s CFL team, which has many fans in our fair city, recently released its 2021 game schedule (assuming COVID allows for fan presence in the stands). Besides customized jerseys, the Redblacks shop has a lot of vintage-looking clothes like a bomber jacket, this pullover windbreaker, and a plaid button-up shirt.

Apt613 Pick: Plaid yoga pants!

Ottawa Senators

According to Sens Twitter, the re-introduction of Ottawa’s 2D logo is the best thing to happen to this team since the 2017 playoff run. The retro home jersey is a stunning throwback to the look they had in 1992.

Apt613 Pick: If you’ll shell out that little extra to customize the jersey name, we’d go with #MelnykOut.

Ottawa 67s

Scroll down this page and you’ll find the 67s’ chunky vintage-style toques, scarves and mittens, most of which are priced at $30.

Apt613 Pick: For a bona fide fan on your shopping list, go all the way with the classic Barberpole Jersey at $140 (if they don’t already have one).
