#Support613 Gift Guide: Clothing, accessories, and personal care

By Sonya Gankina on December 10, 2021

Our local holiday gift guide is your North star to a special gift for that special someone this holiday season, whether they are a foodie or a local sports fan.

Here you will find suggestions for beautiful local handmade accessories, high-quality consigned clothing, and handmade beauty products, so the person unwrapping will feel the most beautiful.

Birch Jewellery

Designed and made in Ottawa, Birch Jewellery is the beautiful child of nature-loving founder and CEO Samantha. So if your loved one explores Gatineau Park and nearby trails on the regular, this is the spot. A branch necklace is delightfully dainty and immediately transports us to a forest. A honeycomb necklace is as sweet as it is precious and comes in both gold and silver stainless steel.

Apt613 pick: The tiny pine cone necklace stole our hearts. Off to frolic in the meadows, everyone!

Handmade Herbology

Handmade Herbology offers “small batch products to nourish the skin, body, and soul.” Herbalist Jess studies medicinal plants and creates beautiful products that offer healing inside out only with what nature gives us. If Jess is using exotic ingredients, she collected them herself abroad, during her travels. The shop offers everything from a rose and dead sea clay mask to a belly bliss tea, aphrodisiac roller and body butter.

Apt613 pick: Salvation: A must-have for a natural first aid kit, with plantain and olive oil salve.

Shop JV Studios

Home to emerging and independent local brands in Ottawa, Shop JV Studios was founded by jewelry artist Jasmine Virani, whose designs are also displayed at the shop. It’s a beautiful space in Hintonburg and the website offers a massive selection of local gifts, from hair accessories like scrunchies and barrettes to bath & body sets with salts and bath bombs, and even healthy nail polish!

Apt613 pick: “Don’t be an asshole” cat mug. Do I need to explain?

Trove Fashion

Down Wellington Street from Shop JV Studios is a bit of a hidden gem, Trove Fashion. I admit I was wary of going inside, because the display is so beautiful and expensive-looking. BUT you can find affordable things there too, and every week they have sales on Instagram. We love this shop because it offers a delightful, careful curation of beautiful consignment secondhand clothes, both designer and affordable brands. It’s great for gifts for yourself or others. Trove Fashion even features designer jewelry from brands like Gucci and shoes from brands like Jimmy Choo.

Apt613 pick: This stunning authentic Tiffany’s bead bracelet. A teal Christmas, anyone?

Shop Recollective

Continuing our shopping expedition, Shop Recollective is another fashion-forward consignment boutique in Ottawa that is worth checking out. Owned and operated by sisters Carla and Kelly Bourada, the shop does daily drops on Instagram and sells both gently worn clothing and new with tags.

Apt613 pick: This beautiful Gucci purse. Definitely for myself.

Kindred Shop

Kindred Shop is a delightful place to get a gift for the witchy friend in your life. Also on Wellington street and with an online location, Kindred sells beautiful handmade jewelry, various cat paraphernalia, protective amulets, local candles, and even secondhand clothes. The shop is owned by jewelry maker Tamara Steinborn. Kindred also partners with the community to help out projects like Period Packs, which exists “to ensure that Ottawa community members are able to access menstrual products” and serves over 400 women every month. The shop also supports Cat Rescue Network.

Apt613 pick: Beautiful hand-poured candles.

Oresta

With three locations in Hintonburg, the Glebe, and New Edinburgh, this beauty and skincare boutique offers a wide, curated selection of organic and cruelty-free products suitable for every skin type, age, gender, and concern. Body care, face care, bath, and cosmetic products are all available.

Apt613 pick: The Eminence Stone Crop body oil sounds like a perfect winter-weather skin saver! Use it on its own as a moisturizer or massage oil, or add a few drops to your body lotion to kick up the richness.
