Soup Ottawa offers grants to interesting Ottawa projects: apply now or come out and vote!

By Samantha Richarz on January 5, 2017

With 2017 already upon us, it’s time to start working on those lofty new year’s resolutions—like eating more veggies and giving back to the community. Well, lucky for you, Soup Ottawa makes both of those ambitious goals more attainable than ever.

On Monday, January 23rd, Soup Ottawa will be hosting its 13th event at the Gladstone Theatre with the theme, “Celebrate our Future!” For only 10$, you get a bowl of locally-made soup and bread, and the opportunity to vote for one of the exciting projects our community members have planned for 2017. The evening’s winner will take home a grant that will directly fund the transformation of their idea into a reality. Even better, the more people that attend, the bigger the grant becomes—so tell your friends, because this month’s event seats 200 (that’s a potential 2000$ grant!).

At Soup Ottawa’s last event in Fall 2016, “Building Women Up,” an initiative of WISE (Women’s Initiatives for Safer Environments), took home $1360 to help put on workshops designed to help women gain hands-on experience with basic home repair skills. You can hear more about their project and how they have put the grant to use so far during January’s event.

Want to attend? You can buy your tickets online through EventBrite. General admission tickets are free to reserve online; organizers just ask that guests have their $10 cash payment ready at the door.

Have a cool new (or old!) project that you’d love to share with the community at this January’s event? Applications are open until Sunday, January 8th, on Soup Ottawa’s website; just fill out the form and organizers will be in touch.

Since Soup Ottawa is a not-for-profit that operates with no overhead, they rely greatly on the generosity of community businesses and community members to ensure their events are a success. If you are a local business interested in providing soup or bread for future events, or a community member looking to volunteer, Soup Ottawa would love to hear from you.

Now that’s some real chicken soup for the soul.
