It’s festival season in the National Capital Region and one of the biggest, most exciting and significant festivals happening right now is . In its 11th year, RockFest attracts over 200,000 festival goers over 3 days and packs over a hundred artists and bands, from local newcomers to rock legends.
The festival was created by Alex Martel, a young kid from Montebello who decided to put on a show with his band. Tickets back then were a mere $10 and featured young bands just starting out, but Martel kept the festival going over the years and expanded it into what is now Canada’s biggest rock festival.
As of Thursday morning on June 24, the whole town of Montebello QC, less than an hour away from Ottawa, completely shuts down to let festival goers take over the main street and the Montebello marina. Over the next few days, rockers and fans will party with NOFX, Korn, Lamb of God, Blink 182, Rise Against, Ice Cube, Billy Talent, Sum 41, Puscifer, and too many more other bands to list in just one sentence. This RockFest has a distinct 90s and early 2000s feel, and guarantees a healthy dose of nostalgia and good times all around.
What’s extra special this year is that the first day of the festival also happens to be , Quebec’s big yearly celebration, and Rockfest has a great line-up of French bands in order to celebrate in style.
