Cadence Weapon takes the stage at Rehab Pizza Party tonight!

By Courtney Merchand on June 26, 2014

From electronica to seductive rapping, Rehab Pizza Party has a little something to bring every scene together. If the eclectic mix of performers aren’t enough to get you out of the house, then the promise of free pizza will.

“It’s a chance to relive what rock n’ roll pizza parties used to be, but this time with more dancing,” describe co-organizers Victoria Watson and Leona Nikoli?. It’s the best of both worlds, “you get to hear all types of music and eat free pizza at the same time.”

For their third event in less than a year, they will be taking Rehab Pizza Party outdoors to capitalize on the open air courtyard at Mugshots. The lineup for the event is sure to have you on your feet all-night long as Watson and Nikoli? attempt to recreate the unique vibe of Montreal’s after-hour loft scene.

Up-and-coming local rap group, ST/\KR, will make their second appearance on the Rehab stage to open the show with an electro-infused set. Formed early this year, the  duo will perform some of their newly released singles to kick off the night.

If you thought you had to wait until Bluesfest to hear Silkken Laumann perform, think again. The Ottawa-based dance-pop group will be bringing their passion for electronic and synthesized inspired music to volume III of the Rehab Pizza Party. The audience can expect to hear songs from their long awaited debut album released early this year, Not Forever Enough. Anyone else hoping they play ‘Obvious Water (Yer a Kitten)’?

The big headliner of the night will be Indies acclaimed Hip Hop Artist of the Year (2013) Cadence Weapon. This will be one performance you don’t want to miss as the Montreal rapper takes centre stage with a dj set. It’s hard to tell if we’ll hear singles from his most recent album, Hope in Dirty City, but I’ve got my fingers crossed that he’ll dust off some circa-2005 Breaking Kayfabe tracks.

If the night has you feeling inspired, local artist Audrey Michel will be on scene offering $10 stick n’ poke tattoos. Personally, I recommend going with something a little more subtler then Cadence Weapon’s face on your bicep.

“There’s so much up-and-coming in Ottawa and we just want to showcase it,” said Watson. “We want to make it affordable, accessible and open to everyone.”

Volume III of the Rehab Pizza Party will also double as the “unofficial” after party of the Ottawa Art Gallery’s summer exhibition launch.

Did I mention free pizza?
