Podcast: Woodhawk’s Turner Midzain

By Josh Lemoine on March 27, 2018

This week on the show, we’re chatting with guitarist and singer Turner Midzain. Together with bass player Mike Badmington and drummer Kevin Nelson, the trio makes up Calgary-based rock band WOODHAWK. They’ll be in Ottawa on March 29th at House of TARG. The show is part of the band’s first tour through Eastern Canada.

For Turner and Mike, WOODHAWK is just their most recent collaboration, dating back to when Mike taught Turner how to play guitar when they were kids.

“Mike and I have been friends since elementary school, when we met each other at the age of 9 or 10. We’ve been in bands together since we were kids.”

On the podcast, Turner talks about the music scenes in Canada’s big three cities versus the smaller scenes (like Calgary or Ottawa), working with their guitar idol Ian Blurton, and having a similar name (totally by accident) to fellow Calgary band Woodpigeon.

WOODHAWK performs at House of TARG on March 29th, supported by Mountain Dust, Thünderkok and Monobrow. Doors at 8pm, show starts at 8:30pm. 19+. $10 at the door.
