Podcast: Opera singer Justin Ralph makes his country music debut

By Josh Lemoine on September 14, 2017

This week on the show, we’re talking with local banjo-swingin’ singer-songwriter Justin Ralph. Justin is releasing his debut EP By the Old Railroad on September 24 at the Whiprsnapr Brewery in Bell Corners.

Having spent the last decade as an opera singer in Toronto, Justin recently moved back to Ottawa and discovered his true passion is folk music. Influenced by the likes of Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and Lead Belly, his debut recording is a mix of old-fashioned storytelling, expressions of emotion (specifically for his newborn child Beckett), and a cover of the Lead Belly classic ‘In the Pines.’

We ask Justin about how he transitioned from opera to folk, how he got into the banjo, and how to get a Hank Williams t-shirt.

Come out to the EP release and enjoy live music with Justin and special guest Tyler Kealey, along with incredible craft beer. Admission is by donation.
