On this week’s show we speak to Tom Keenan of Winnipeg-based duo Heavy Bell, a creative partnership comprised of he and Royal Canoe’s Matt Peters.
Their new avant-chamber-pop concept album, By Grand Central Station, takes its name and inspiration from Ottawa-born writer Elizabeth Smart’s acclaimed 1945 prose-poetry book, By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept, a cult favourite in Canlit circles and abroad.
Heavy Bell is now touring the country as an 8-piece ensemble (horns, strings, piano, guitar and percussion) including members of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and their performance at Pressed on February 3 will also feature readings by Ottawa-based actors Kate Hurman and Kristina Watt.
This interview aired on CHUO 89.1FM on January 23, 2018.
