“Welcome to the Matriarch” by Jah’kota // Afro-Indigenous artist Jah’kota aka Justin Jah’kota Holness is back with this track which goes out to “all the women in the front who are leading the march.” Watch the official music video on YouTube. [Soundcloud]
“Harmonize the Moon” by Michael Feuerstack // We featured his “I Used to Be a Singer” single in an earlier update to #ottmusic weekly. Since then, the Ottawa-born songwriter Michael Feuerstack has released a full-length album called Harmonize the Moon. The eponymous title track is a beautiful song set to warm acoustic guitar, lap steel, and Feuerstack’s own soft voice. Though he is now based in Montreal, Feuerstack is welcome at Apartment613 any time—if he brings his guitar. [Bandcamp]
“Nothing to Hide” by Gold Bonds // “Nothing to Hide” is a new song by the electro-acoustic duo of Gold Bonds, aka Matt Gilmour and David Gervais. The longtime friends and collaborators were an early add to the Music.Art.Ppl label established in 2020. With only a couple of singles released in that time, we hope Gold Bonds is working up to a full-length release—the songs are so good! [Bandcamp]
“out 4 a breather” by dad sports // The Ottawa indie rock band’s new album I AM JUST A BOY LEAVE ME ALONE !!! has racked up more than one million streams via Spotify. Big energy! Actually, more than one million streams on the first track alone, “out for a breather”. [Bandcamp]
“Tides of Fools” by Marie-Clo // Released in three parts over the past year, Marie-Clo’s full-length release of Shell(e) arrived with a bonus single, “Tides of Fools”. The pop track features a lot of local talent on record, including members of Pony Girl and FET.NAT in the backing band. [Bandcamp]
“Lost My Job” by Church of Trees // Local synthpop band Church of Trees has released a new album, Pause, which is co-produced by Church of Trees and NYC producer Rob Preuss. One of our favourite songs from the 10-track album is “Lost My Job”, which opens with a super hooky drumbeat. [Bandcamp]
