Ottawa’s Own showcases local makers, artists, and ice cream creators

By Hannah Manning on February 13, 2018

In front of a crowd of over 100 Ottawa enthusiast on a wintery Monday night at the Mayfair Theatre, Ottawa Tourism unveiled their Ottawa’s Own campaign: short video profiles designed to showcase individuals who are shaping Ottawa.

Ottawa’s Own has been designed by Ottawa Tourism to demonstrate that Ottawa is much more than a sleepy government town. From making paddles out of old skateboards to creating new flavours of ice cream, Ottawa is home to dynamic, compassionate, creative individuals.

Glenn Duncan, Chief Marketing Officer of Ottawa Tourism, opened the evening and quickly got to showing off the six videos created. You can watch them on OttawasOwn.ca or check them out on YouTube. Following the viewing, five of the six took to the stage for a panel discussion. White water kayaker Seth Ashworth was out of town and couldn’t attend, but Jeremie Thompson from Little Victories Coffee, Liz Mok of Moo Shue Ice Cream, mural artist Ryan Smeeton, Randy Hogg of Black Coffee Apparel, and artist Andrew Szeto took questions from the audience.

Watch Ottawa’s Own online and nominate an inspiring individual to be featured in the next round of videos.
