Ottawa Architecture Week celebrates 27th anniversary

By Sharon Cheung on September 22, 2015

Ottawa has built a reputation of being a battleground for federal politics, but have you ever thought of it simply as a city?

Though overshadowed by its political identity, we invite you to explore Ottawa’s uniqueness through architecture, urbanism or art and design at the annual Ottawa Architecture Week underway this week.

For their 27th anniversary OAW will be examining Ottawa’s dual-identity as a livable city and as a national capital.

The complex relationship of our home can be seen manifested physically in urban spaces sprinkled throughout the city and for the first time, we’ll all be able to take a closer look at what this means.

So what events are offered? On Wednesday, you can preview the exciting transformation in the works at the National Arts Centre from 4:30-5:30pm or 6:00-7:00pm. Tour space for the upcoming changes is limited, please register to ensure your spot.

On Thursday at the OAW exhibitions gala you can celebrate the designers, curators and craftsman who designed installations for this years event. Exhibitions include the 613 stimulus, Official Ottawa: An Unofficial Portrait, Ottawa: The Third City and New monument: Children’s design workshop.

Jumping to the weekend, on Friday you can enjoy a CreativeMornings Ottawa, OAW edition. Guests can take a glimpse inside the design and construction of e-commerce powerhouse Shopify’s Elgin Street headquarters.

Ottawa Architecture week is on until September 26, 2015. For a full list of events, click here.  Follow OAW on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
