This week, the Ottawa Music Industry Coalition (OMIC) announced that Executive Director Jamie Kwong will be moving on to a new position and concluding her services with OMIC on January 5, 2022.

The stated goal of OMIC is to “make Ottawa and the surrounding region a great place to work in music—on stage, behind the scenes, or in the studio—and live as a music fan.” Kwong has played a significant role in that mission and guided the Ottawa music scene through the debilitating effects of COVID-19.

A joint statement from OMIC’s Board of Directors listed Kwong’s many achievements as Executive Director. During her tenure, Kwong strengthened strategic partnerships, including representing OMIC on the Mayor’s Economic Partners Task Force and the Cultural Tourism Working Group. She was the force behind the creation of Encore Ottawa Season 1 and 2; not only that, she organized the second annual Capital Music Awards.

When COVID-19 lockdowns were making live shows almost impossible, Kwong teamed up with various Business Improvement Areas to host the free CitySounds concert series in August 2021.

“During my tenure as the Executive Director of OMIC, it has been my pleasure to serve our local music community and help create a thriving music economy in Ottawa. I have thoroughly appreciated this opportunity to contribute, to learn, and to work with the Board of Directors, Karim Rostom (OMIC’s Programs’ Coordinator), the members and volunteers of OMIC, and the stakeholders of Ottawa’s music industry and am truly thankful for their support during these tough times. I’m very optimistic that Ottawa’s music community, which is so full of talent and passion, will rebound and thrive,” says Jamie Kwong in a statement.

Previous to taking on the Executive Director role with OMIC, Kwong worked as the Executive Director of the Vanier Business Improvement Area and the Orléans Chamber of Commerce and has served in community-leading non-profit organizations for over ten years.
