OAG Art Market & Art Auction: A weekend-long extravaganza of yay, yum and feel-good fun starts May 27!

By Ottawa Art Gallery on May 19, 2022

The Ottawa Art Gallery’s (OAG) first-ever free Art Market will soon transform the Gallery into a building-wide art fair, featuring more than 30 artists and makers from the Ottawa-Gatineau area.

The weekend-long free Art Market runs Saturday May 28 and Sunday May 29, from 10am to 4pm. You can check out the vendors and schedule for free programming, and register for free here (though walk-ins are welcome).

From mixed-media art, prints, ceramics, and handcrafted jewelry to goodies for the foodies, the event is sure to be a hit. The OAG Art Market is also offering free workshops like the Community Collage Quilt, exhibition tours in English and French, and activities for the whole family (look for the Art Tent!). Bring a tote bag (or two) and feel good about shopping by supporting local makers and your OAG.

Rebecca Clouâtre, time passing, 2022, hand-cut collage on St-Armand handmade paper, birch frame, 23”x 23” (framed). Market value $800, starting bid $400.

The Art Market is part of OAG’s GIVE TO GET ART AUCTION Experience, which will kick off the weekend’s festivities on Friday, May 27! The art auction is OAG’s main fundraiser and Ottawa’s best spring party. This year, it will be an auction like no other! The over 90 artists who have donated their works to the auction will receive 50% of the proceeds of the sales in support of their practice. The incredible exhibition of their work will be on display all weekend long, and you can bid all weekend long too! The remaining dollars raised by the auction will go to keeping the OAG free and supporting events and activity programming.

Be sure to check out and bid on the work of future art stars like Priya Gurnani, Willem Deisinger, Maria Aguilar-Cruz, and others to be announced, who are featured on the TD Emerging Artist Wall. This new, curated auction feature will highlight outstanding pieces from artists who are beginning their journey.

Jamie Kronick, Coventry Carol, 2021, pigment print, 12” x 12”. Market value $550, starting bid $225.

“We wanted this year’s OAG Art Auction to be extra special and to welcome all of our supporters back into the building. It’s already exceptional because we are (finally!) back in person, and ready to party—and shop—but also because the event has so much more to offer and so many more ways for art lovers to help support the Gallery, local artists and makers, ”said Eilidh Kyte, OAG Officer of Strategic Initiatives and Special Events.

The GIVE TO GET ART Auction Opening Night Gala, back in person for the first time in two years, will take place on Friday, May 27, from 6:30pm to midnight. You can purchase tickets here for the VIP reception, which starts at 6:30pm, for an extra hour of bidding plus food stations and cocktails. General admission starts at 7:30pm.
