Calling all Nerds! You know who you are.
Armada Lounge (23 York Street ) is hosting the first of a monthly series of networking events starting on Wednesday September 2nd, 2015 that invites business professionals, passionate innovators and vanguards in Ottawa’s vocation world to co-mingle and talk-shop under one roof.
Forget the typical networking template; the awkward ten minutes pre and post seminar where you’re practically speed-dating every suit and tie within cubicle space, exchanging signature blocks and whoring your way through a crowd of potential employers in the hopes that you bump into the right hiring manager before time ticks down and it’s GAME OVER. Back to PowerPoint…
“The focus on Networking for Nerds (NFN) is to meet new people and to have fun while doing it”, explains Matt Drouillard, organizer of the series and connoisseur to business networking himself. “Everyone is welcome”, from whatever market sector. Whether IT, R&D, Coding, Web and Graphic Design, Art and Multimedia Production, Materials, Financials, Industrials or Game Development, you can play!
Enjoy old school 8 bit projected arcade gaming, giant Jenga, a poutine and veggie bar snack (included in the price of your ticket) and a variety of classic board games to help break the ice between you and the new contacts you meet.
The event goes from 6pm to 10pm, giving participants plenty of time to stop in either after work or later in the evening. Skirt n’ jacket or t-shirt and jeans, it’s encouraged to show up comfortably! Stock up on business cards, battery juice and if you’re feeling really ambitious, maybe even whip out the good ol’ classic Blackberry for good measure. Bet your bottom dollar you’ll be taking numbers and names, like a boss!
Tickets are available on the Eventbrite page for $10 (plus service fee and tax) or get them at the door for $15 plus tax. You can also visit the NFN Facebook page for updates or message Matt directly at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions.
