With her unique voice and eerie melodies, French Canadian singer-songwriter Safia Nolin has taken Quebec and France by storm. Her indie-folk is particular and puts whoever listens into a welcome state of trance. Her debut album Limoilou is full of beautiful melodies with a nostalgic feel, and honest lyrics. Her album is a mix of clean and soulful vocal tracks and beautifully complex arrangements. Released in 2015 via Bonsound, Limoilou was nominated for Folk Album of the Year at the ADISQ Gala. Safia Nolin won the Prix Félix-Leclerc de la chanson and the 2016 SOCAN Breakthrough Award. Being able to see such promising artists in Ottawa venues Barrymore’s and House of Common is an amazing opportunity to discover Nolin.
Safia Nolin will be in Ottawa this week. Nolin is joining 60 or so more local and regional artists who will perform in 20 different venues all over the Ottawa-Gatineau region for MEGAPHONO 2017.
Safia Nolin will be performing two concerts at the MEGAPHONO festival on Friday February 3. 6:40pm at House of Common (11b Fairmont Ave) and 9pm at Barrymore’s (323 Bank). Tickets are $10–25 each and are available at www.megaphono.tv. Festivals passes are available online for $60.
