Mauno, Lido Pimienta, Nap Eyes, BLAKDENIM, Above Top Secret, Scattered Clouds, Expanda Fuzz, Bonnie Doon and many more will perform at clubs and pop-up venues around town.
MEGAPHONO will return as a 3-day event which puts some 70+ artists on stage at 25 venues around Ottawa-Gatineau. As always, there is a strong focus on local talent, however, nationally and internationally acclaimed artists have begun visiting town for MEGAPHONO in recent years. Polaris Music Prize winner Lido Pimienta, weirdo pop-rock maritimers Mauno, and experimental T.O. rappers Above Top Secret are among the invitees to the showcase festival’s 4th edition from February 8 to 10, 2018.
Local highlights include Ottawa’s jazzy and electric hip hop group BLAKDENIM, melodic lo-fi rock band Boyhood, post-rock goth band Scattered Clouds, sludgy surf rockers Bonnie Doon, and dream pop collective Sparklesaurus.
For the first time, MEGAPHONO will also present the Native North America Gathering at the National Arts Centre, featuring performances by Duke Redbird, Willy Thrasher and Linda Saddleback, Willy Mitchell, Leland Bell, and Eric Landry.
Filmmaker and songwriter Alanis Obomsawin – a recipient of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement – will also perform, and pay tribute to the late filmmaker and songwriting trailblazer Willie Dunn.
A show schedule plus panel discussions and talks will soon be announced.
Visit megaphono.ca for the full line-up. Passes cost $100–175.
