By Adam Wilk. Adam is the Director at Makerspace North. More than just a cool space, Makerspace North provides opportunities for people to learn, experience something new, meet and work with like-minded creators, and find unexpected collaborations in an environment with a supportive community that is happy to share ideas and resources and celebrate wins.
Looking back over the years, Makerspace North has a lot to be proud of.
We’ve hosted countless events, markets, concerts, and the occasional rave or two. We’ve watched as City Centre has grown in to a hub of cool businesses. Look no further than our neighbours at the brewery and bakery downstairs establishing themselves as landmark spots in the city. Who would’ve thought this neck of the woods could become something so vibrant?
And take a look on the other side of town. A little company called Shopify has become a big part of Ottawa’s identify. Their explosive growth is deeper than just a fast-paced tech startup. It’s an undercurrent in our culture. It’s part of the shift towards entrepreneurship, creativity, and passion. It’s Ottawa.
Whatever your dreams, ideas, or projects, Makerspace North is the spot for you.
Our tenants are our soul. With their help, we’ve established ourselves as the go-to space for getting an idea up and running. Ottawa Tool Library opened their doors and has become a staple in the how-to and DIY community. CNC Ottawa has grown to support a full staff, and has become a key partner for government projects and amazing installations. Dozens of other businesses and artists have gotten to work in our space over the past five years, and for a lot of them, their story is still being written.
But how does that story start?
It’s tough getting going as an entrepreneur. As a maker. As an artist. As a creative. To put it all on the line because it’s something you believe in. To make something for yourself and to grow an idea in to something real. To risk everything — because you know you have to try or you’ll explode.
But that story starts with you.
