Celebrating 16 years of creative music, Montreal’s Jazzlab Orchestra explores musical writing in diverse styles, supported by an all-Québec lineup of composers and musicians. Since its inception in the early 2000s, they continue to place great emphasis on originality, inspiration and punch with a core of incredibly talented artists.
One of the few groups of its kind, the Jazzlab has released seven albums and performed at many of the major jazz festivals throughout North America and Europe. Usually made up of eight leading Québec jazz musicians, this ensemble has expands and retracts from eight to 12, and sometimes up to 22 musicians on special occasions. All of the Jazzlab Orchestra’s projects, without exception, have been nominated in the categories Best Jazz Album and/or Best Jazz Concert at ADISQ, JUNO Awards, Prix OPUS, or Downbeat Magazine.
Jazzlab Orchestra is performing live tonight as part of the Ottawa Winter Jazzfest. Their concert, taped behind closed doors at Arts Court Theatre, will be broadcast via YouTube on Friday, March 5 at 6pm (EST). In the meantime, get a taste for their sound in this live set recorded in fall 2020:
