A second Latin Sparks Festival will be held on August 12 at Albert Island, in response to the demand following the sold-out festival in June. This August edition will feature all the attractions including local Latin food vendors, Latin music, live musicians, dance workshops, and an all-ages crowd with a block party feel.

Latin Sparks has become a much-awaited summer outing for thousands in Ottawa. As the largest festival of its kind, it also brings in many Latin music and salsa fans from as far as Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and the United States. Over 4,000 people showed up on June 10. Tickets for the event sold out hours before doors opened.

“It was beyond amazing. It surpassed my expectations, and they were already pretty high because I had been to Latin Sparks before,” said Ottawa vlogger Puzzleries in her summary of the night.

She commented not only on how the venue really gave the “island” feel, but how the atmosphere was incredibly welcoming and friendly amongst attendees. This description fits well with the idea of inclusivity the Latin Sparks team has always tried to promote. Part of event’s popularity comes from the fact that Latin Sparks is open to all ages and backgrounds, and is also wheelchair accessible.

Over one thousand Instagram posts with the hashtag #latinsparks cropped up during and after the event. Photos feature smiling partygoers, the sea of people dancing beneath the light of the DJ, and the animators dressed in carnival-themed costumes.
