La Terrasse has reopened at the Fairmont Château Laurier

By Hannah Manning on June 3, 2022

Nestled alongside the Fairmont Château Laurier is one of Ottawa’s hidden gems of a patio: La Terrasse. Whether you’re showing off Ottawa to out-of-town friends and family, looking for a spot to cool off after a walk through Major’s Hill Park, or planning a fancy date night, La Terrasse should be on your summer “must do” list.

From the patio, you can take in the Rideau Canal, Bytown Museum, the Ottawa River, and Parliament. There is a selection of covered and open air seating, all far away from the hustle and bustle of Wellington Street. Although adjacent to the hotel, the patio is open to anyone.

The menu has seen a refresh this year, led by Tracy Truong, Chef Restaurant, the hotel’s first female to occupy the position.

“It’s an honour to be the first woman in the position of Chef Restaurant and to come back at Fairmont Château Laurier, where I first started to cook!” — Tracy Truong

“My first project was to co-create La Terrasse’s menu and I’m so proud of the result. The new menu is flavourful and colourful, and includes local products. It’s an honour to be the first woman in the position of Chef Restaurant and to come back at Fairmont Château Laurier, where I first started to cook!” says Tracy Truong, Chef Restaurant.

The all-day menu has several shareable items, larger plates, and desserts. Looking to splurge? The cocktail menu includes What-A-Melon Sangria (served in a watermelon) and a Surf & Turf Caesar for $95 and $90 respectively. Signature cocktails come in around $18-20, and you’ll find Beau’s and Kichesippi on tap, with wines from across Canada and around the world.

La Terrasse at the Fairmont Château Laurier (1 Rideau Street) is open 11am-10pm daily. Reservations can be made online. Access to the patio is accessible. Washrooms are located in the Château Laurier. The Château Laurier is also home to Zoe’s (don’t miss the afternoon tea or evening cocktails) and Wilfrid’s.
