I’m a bit surprised by this Obama fellow. I mean, who would choose to discuss policy with our stodgy political leaders over spending a night with Jill Barber at the Black Sheep Inn? (Not me – but then again, I don’t run the world’s largest economy. Yet.)

The sultry Port Credit, Ont. singer-songwriter actually takes the stage twice this week: Thursday with Ottawa folk songstress  Lora Bidner, and again Friday with Toronto’s Jerry Leger. Expect to hear a lot of tunes off of Chances, Barber’s lushly orchestrated ode to love songs of the 1950s. I’m not going to be there (sadly) but I’d be interested to see how her new material fits with the more contemporary sounds of her previous two discs.

It seems there are still some tickets available for the Thursday show; if you had your hearts set on Friday, well, start working that Craigslist magic. Oh, and for those of the car-free persuasion, here’s the Black Sheep’s always-helpful Facebook carpooling group.
