Jazzfest’s TENACITY series of 12 livestream shows restores this year’s festival—06.19.20 to 06.28.20

Kellylee Evans, BADBADNOTGOOD, The Prime Rib Big Band and more will perform in the Ottawa Jazz Festival’s digital program.

While we can’t meet in Confederation Park for mainstage shows this summer, the Ottawa Jazz Festival has curated a virtual program featuring some of the best and most interesting jazz musicians from across Canada, around the world, and here in Ottawa.

The program includes four live shows as well as pre-recorded sets, all of which are premieres of never-before-seen material. For a special visual experience, Canadian artists Darryl Lahteenmaa, Spencer Moreland, and Natalie Nehlawi created animations to overlay the pre-recorded videos.

TENACITY will span the entire 10 days of Jazzfest’s original program from June 19 to 28. Tune in online, along with listeners from around the world, for a dozen concerts. Each performance will be introduced with a live conversation between the artists and Downbeat Magazine critic James Hale.

Some shows, like Tin Men and the Telephone (June 20 at 7pm), involve live audience participation. You’ll want to download “Tinmendo” from the App Store or Google Play, as audience members will shape the performance live from within a Zoom call. Their interactive performance at the Winter Jazzfest was ridiculous. This is not something you want to miss. Register for the Zoom link here.

All other performances will be broadcast on YouTube—no registration required. Livestreams will be available on the homepage every evening.

A handful of local restaurants are offering takeout specials throughout the festival. Call up North & Navy, Pure Kitchen, and Thyme & Again for some concert-watching eats.
