TD Ottawa Jazz Festival will broadcast greatest hits “from the vault” for the 2022 edition of Winter Jazzfest. Watch concerts on-demand from Feb. 4–13.

The lineup of 20+ artists features some of the most extraordinary sets in Winter Jazzfest’s relatively brief history. The Ottawa Jazz Festival organization launched Winter Jazzfest in 2012, many years after the capital’s first summer jazz festival in 1980.

Highlights include The Barr Brothers in a five-piece setup, with harp by Eveline Rousseau, the Larnell Lewis Band led by Snarky Puppy-famous drummer Lewis, the popular jazz vocalist Ranee Lee, Toronto songwriter Ron Sexsmith, Toronto singer Tanika Charles with her band The Wonderfuls, one of Canada’s best saxophonists in Rémi Bolduc, and Juno-nominated pianist, producer and songwriter Josh “Socalled” Dolgin.

Filmed inside Arts Court Theatre on Daly Avenue, Jazzfest’s recording sessions feature a stellar lineup of Ottawa talent with sets by Kellylee Evans, herself backed by an all-star band of instrumentalists, Stittsville singer-songwriters Kathleen Edwards, and Jim Bryson, the 2020 International Blues Challenge Winners HOROJO Trio (Jamie Holmes, Jeff Rogers, JW-Jones), as well as Shmeggie (John Geggie and David Wall duo), and the Elliott/Boudreau Quartet led by guitarist Garry Elliott and pianist Steve Boudreau.

Folks who are tuned into the national Canadian jazz scene will recognize more names like Rafael Zaldivar’s Afro-Cuban-Jazz Quartet, French-Canadian trumpeter Rachel Therrien, multi-instrumentalist composer Rebecca Foon (solo cello, piano and voice), Jazzlab Orchestra’s tribute to Charles Mingus, the Remergence Tentet led by Montreal saxophonist Christine Jensen, and The Kirk MacDonald Generations Quartet featuring father-daughter collaborators Kirk and Virginia MacDonald on tenor sax and clarinet, respectively.
