Saturday evening was the perfect summer night for the sold-out Grand Finale of the 25th anniversary edition of Les Grands Feux du Casino. Held on the grounds surrounding the Canadian Museum of History, this year’s event offered a variety of activities and attractions for everyone. The theme of the night, “Voilà, a hymn to art!” was evident in the evening’s programming of music, attractions, and fireworks.

Visitors started their multimedia experience upon entering the site through one of two lighted pathways, which led to La Plaza, the common area hosting four food trucks, SAQ tents, and a variety of entertainment options. The site was already bustling early in the evening as people settled in to view the fireworks. Two luminous fairy-like characters walked through the crowd, drawing lots of attention from young and old alike. Other attractions such as the photo booth, Bell XFEU, were busy throughout the evening. Later, as the evening sky grew darker, the crowds were dense around Le Grand Feu, a gathering point centred around a lighted structure representing a bonfire, which tied into the overall festival theme of Fires of Reconnection. The area also featured dynamic entertainment, with fire-spinning and a group of costumed performers playing drums with fiery drumsticks.

Shortly after 9:15pm, the crowd was treated to the grand finale fireworks display over the Ottawa River. The coordinated spectacle of light and music definitely did not disappoint, as the sky lit up brilliantly throughout the performance, reflecting off the surface of the water, with Parliament and the Ottawa shoreline as a beautiful backdrop.

This annual series by Grands Feux du Casino is not to be missed, so make sure to fit it into next year’s summer plans early.
