Hops and Fodder: Dining For Pivots Sake

By Karen Diepeveen on September 18, 2015

Still need plans for Saturday night?

Thankfully, For Pivots Sake has come to your rescue with their annual fundraising dinner Hops + Fodder. With delicious food, creative brews, and good company guaranteed, it’s the perfect way to cap off your weekend.

For Pivots Sake has quickly become a central part of Ottawa’s community building initiatives. From its founding in 2012 by the people behind Antique Skate Shop, it has provided countless kids with skateboards, recycled tons of old skateboard parts, held a skateboard camp, and connected mentors with youth across Ottawa and beyond. Yup, they’re all about skateboarding, but at its heart, the For Pivots Sake crew is about connecting across the community.

And the dinner they throw each year echoes this goal: featuring a wide range of Ottawa’s best food and drink, the dinner is a chance to taste goods from the chefs at Two Six Ate, town, The Albion Rooms, and more. Plus! They’ll have at brews from five local breweries paired with each course. Pretty much guaranteed to be delicious.

Expanding their reach, For Pivots Sake has seen success across the region. This summer, they partnered with communities in Smiths Falls to throw a skate park jam that included free lessons, boards, music and food. You’ll often find them at the Charlie Bowins Skate Park here in Ottawa (another project they spearheaded) – a skate park that’s already been used by hundreds of aspiring skateboarders over the summer. Building on these projects, they’re hoping to ramp things up over the next year. More skate park jams, more kids with boards, more opportunities for youth to engage with mentors and with their communities – all of these ideas fit in with their ambitious vision.

In the meantime, dinners like Hops and Fodder are central to ensuring For Pivots Sake can continue. All proceeds of each $85 ticket go right back to engaging and mentoring youth in our community. What better way to spend a Saturday night?

Hops + Fodder is happening at the Bridgehead Roastery this Saturday at 5:30pm. Tickets can be purchased on the For Pivots Sake website.
