Over the past ten years the stretch of Richmond Road around Churchill Avenue has developed into one of the trendiest spots in Westboro and in all of Ottawa. One of the many great features that make this area so attractive and pedestrian-friendly are the wall murals that decorate the side facades of many of the buildings along Richmond Road.

This week’s Gem is located on the south side of Richmond, right across from the MEC store. Painted by Shaun McInnis in 2006, the mural depicts firefighters in the line of duty, in a series of beautiful images. The mural includes a painting of a 19th century horse-drawn fire carriage, as well as more modern scenes such as a new City of Ottawa fire truck, and a firefighter dressed in protective gear rescuing a child. Definitely worth a look if you’re in the area!
