Premiere: Slack Bridges “Joy of Joys” album stream

By Greggory Clark on November 8, 2017

Slack Bridges are set to unleash their album Joy of Joys on Saturday night at The Rainbow (76 Murray St). But before it’s officially out, Apt613 is giving you the chance to hear Joy of Joys in its entirety.

The album was written and recorded in Vanier over the course of several months and overflows with the band’s deep love for vintage and neo soul music, jazz fusion and hip hop. “It’s not uncommon to be reminded of Steely Dan and NWA in the same tune,” says bandleader Garrett Barr.

It comes as something of a surprise that Slack Bridges are only about to release their debut full-length album. Since the 2016 release of Slack Bridges EP1 – which spent weeks in the CHUO 89.1FM charts – the Ottawa combo has never been far from a major stage or a packed dancefloor. Their funk-fueled, soulful sound has earned invites to play RBC Ottawa Bluesfest, TD Ottawa Jazz Festival, House of PainT, Ottawa Race Weekend, and the first ever Bangers & Mash soul music festival.

Hear the velvety smooth record in its complete form down below.

Joy of Joys is officially out on November 11 and will be available on CD and vinyl.

Slack Bridges is performing an album release concert at The Rainbow (76 Murray St) with special guests Mushy Gushy and DJ Zattar on Saturday November 11 at 9pm. Tickets cost $15 and are available at Compact Music, The Record Centre and Vertigo Records.
