Gig Pick: The Prime Rib Big Band residency at Irene’s—Wednesday nights in 2019

By Greggory Clark on February 5, 2019

Ottawa’s Prime Rib Big Band are playing the first Wednesday of every month at Irene’s this year. Led by trumpet phenom Ed Lister, the band’s horn section is a who’s who of Ottawa jazz heavyweights, including Zakari Frantz (The Souljazz Orchestra) and Juno Award nominee Petr Cancura (The Mighty Popo, Kathleen Edwards). Everyone in the band is super pro.

The super kitchen staff at Irene’s are running a prime rib dinner special every night of the residency.

The 11-piece band plays two, sometimes three sets of originals a night. This month the band is featuring special guest trombonist Nick Adema. Downbeat is at 8:30pm sharp.

Watch the band play Ed Lister’s composition “Prelude” in the player below.

The Prime Rib Big Band are playing at Irene’s Pub (885 Bank St) on Wednesday February 6 and the first Wednesday of every month in 2019. Cover is $10 at the door. Visit irenespub.ca for details.
