Perhaps the most remarkable baroque orchestra in the world will perform at Southam Hall this month. Certainly the most inventive. Yup, the words “inventive” and “baroque” live comfortably together in this orchestra.
Tale of Two Cities: The Leipzig-Damascus Coffeehouse is an imaginative multimedia concert by Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and featuring Trio Arabica, with music by J.S. Bach, Handel, and Telemann.
It’s 1740. In Leipzig, Bach is conducting top-notch musicians in a coffeehouse every Friday night. In Damascus, singers and instrumentalists get together to share classical Arabic music and to accompany famous storytellers. I can hardly wait to see what Tafelmusik conjures up!
Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra is performing Tale of Two Cities: The Leipzig-Damascus Coffeehouse in Southam Hall at the National Arts Centre on Tuesday March 26, 2019. Tickets cost $35–116 online. Show begins at 8pm.
