This wouldn’t be the first time Sparklesaurus or Run Coyote earned Gig Picks on Apartment613—but they are sharing a bill at Pressed this Saturday. The Ottawa show isn’t their first together, so it comes as no surprise to see this winning formula concocted twice in two years. Have no doubts, these are two solid acts and an easy Gig Pick to make.
Local phenoms Sparklesaurus released their awaited debut LP on Record Centre Records this year. The dream-pop quartet has played a string of shows since, tearing up the Ottawa festival circuit all year long. You could have seen them live at RBC Bluesfest, Arboretum, Mirror Mountain or Megaphono… On the other hand, this weekend could be your very first time seeing Sparklesaurus from up front at Pressed Cafe.
The London-via-Toronto band Run Coyote make their way to the capital city at least once every year. They’re no strangers to Ottawa… In an interview, lead singer Sam Allen told Apt613 how they crash at an aunt and uncle’s place after the show; out in Kanata.
This pop-noir spaghetti rock band has a sound like no one else touring in 2018. The drums sit you back in a groove and the bass carries you through the song. I wouldn’t call the guitar parts sparse, but they only do what they have to.
On Saturday, Run Coyote is performing songs off a new record to-be released in 2019.
Sparklesaurus and Run Coyote are performing with Deadpan Romeo at Pressed Cafe (750 Gladstone Ave) on Saturday November 17, 2018 at 8pm. Tickets cost $10 online and at the door.
