This Saturday is chalked full of live music in the city, with something for everyone.
Of note, Dan Mangan is playing the National Arts Centre, The Sorority and Snotty Nose Rez Kids are sharing the stage at Club SAW, but my pick for show of the night is Rich Aucoin at the House of TARG.
If you aren’t familiar with Rich Aucoin, the best word to describe the Halifax-based artist is engaging. His live shows have earned him a strong following, and take advantage of every aspect of performance. His music can best be categorized as energetic dream pop, relying on a mix of synths and heavy bass as the driving force behind the atmospheric soundscapes.
However, there is so much more to Rich Aucoin the artist than simply his music. His visuals (whether music videos or stage backdrops) are meticulously crafted to help turn the soundscapes into immersive environments, using a variety of approaches (such as movie parodies… the video for “It”). Then the visual and auditory aspects are enhanced by his energetic performances, which can incorporate confetti cannons and parachutes to draw fans even deeper into Aucoin’s world.
While that type of show has proven to be a can’t-miss event at festivals in the past (including this past CityFolk), getting to see him in an intimate venue like House of TARG make his performance seem even larger than life (see for yourself). No matter the venue, the one constant with Aucoin’s shows is a guarantee of fun.
Rich Aucoin will be performing at the House of TARG (1077 Bank St) Saturday November 23, 2019, with Petra Glynt and Townes. Tickets are sold out, but watch Facebook for any potential late ticket releases.
