Dan Mangan tours with a notoriously tight backing band. So if you’re a Dan Mangan fan (if not, why not?), but have never seen him perform live, his show is well worth it. You can expect a bit of the unexpected on January 29th as he’s headlining at the Algonquin Commons Theatre, which means a roughly 60- to 90-minute set—which is very rare in a festival setting.
The two-time Juno Award-winning songwriter is no stranger to Ottawa, having played both the CityFolk Festival and its predecessor, the Ottawa Folk Festival. A couple years back, Apt613 contributor Josh Lemoine interviewed Mangan for our Apartment613 radio show on CHUO 89.1FM, which you can still stream here.
Mangan, also a two-time Polaris Prize nominee, is touring his fifth full-length album, More or Less. In the player below is an album cut titled “Peaks & Valleys”, which he and the band performed live for CBC Music.
Dan Mangan is playing at Algonquin Commons Theatre (1385 Woodroffe Ave) on January 29, 2019. Doors open at 7:30pm and Matt Holubowski opens the show at 8pm. Tickets cost $35–40 online. Algonquin College students get $10 off tickets in person at the box office.
