They don’t play Ottawa all too often—and when they have it’s been festival shows. So BLAKDENIM’s homecoming show at Babylon Nightclub could be your best chance (for a while) to see them perform live, on home turf, and in their element.
The jazzy, electric hip hop group is going to be Tour Tight™ following a trip out to Halifax Pop Explosion and six shows on the road. Tonight’s Bablyon show is a party to celebrate a successful tour and, frankly, what’s been a big year for the Ottawa collective. The band is a hit with festival bookers and not just RBC Bluesfest or TD Ottawa Jazz Festival… BLAKDENIM is getting invites from Le Festival d’été de Québec, Le Festival international de jazz de Montréal, Burlington Jazzfest, and the National Arts Centre lately.
BLAKDENIM’s touring lineup includes drums, bass, keys, three horns, standout vocalist Crystalena and emcee Precise Kenny Creole. They’ve got tone from sweet to heavy and all the talent to pull it off live. Recommended if you like The Roots, The Internet, Anderson .Paak or Kendrick Lamar.
A post in the Facebook event says BLAKDENIM will be playing new material from a new and unreleased record.
BLAKDENIM is performing w/sg Kimberly Sunstrum, Long Range Hustle, and DJ Taylor at Babylon Nightclub (317 Bank St.) on Friday November 16 at 10pm. Tickets cost $8 online and $10 at the door.
