Toronto hip hop duo 88GLAM will be making their way to the Algonquin Commons Theatre on Saturday, January 26. Formed in 2017 by Derek Wise and 88 Camino, 88GLAM brings a variety of styles and sounds into the mix. The duo finds a balance between trap music of the mid 2010s and the various types of autotune that have become mainstream in recent years from artists such as Travis Scott and Migos. When speaking further on balance, the two are able to flow over any beat, whether it be a melodic moody track or a trap song made for the club.
On November 15, the duo released ‘88GLAM 2’ which was well received and saw a boost in charting with the song “Lil Boat” going to number 8 on Billboard in Canadian music. The 2019 Canadian tour in support of the new album started this past week, selling out venues in Vancouver and Victoria. 88GLAM offer a high-energy live show, with the 808s banging and both Wise and Camino jumping into the crowd to experience the show with their fans.
88GLAM have been getting pushed heavily in the past year, working with the likes of Nav, 2 Chainz, Gunna, and of course their co-sign from XO Records, The Weeknd. The song “Bali” featuring Nav from their self titled debut album took off, going certified platinum in Canada.
See 88GLAM at Algonquin Commons Theatre at 8pm on Saturday, January 26. Tickets for the show are between $20 – $35 and can be found online, as well as at Vertigo Records and NRML. Floor tickets are now close to selling out.
