Fringe Review: The Shit Hot Shit Show

By Nick Bachusky on June 15, 2018

The Shit Hot Shit Show
by Deborah Ring

50 min / Comedy, Sketch / Mature

Well, I went into this play with high expectations because I have been a fan of SNL, old Mad TV and SCTV for a very long time… I have seen my fair share of sketches. I must say that this show certainly met, if not exceeded all of them. This cast could certainly take over next season and everyone would be happy.

First of all, you are usually used to the same Fringe Fest opening where they tell you to turn off the cell phones, but what they did here was very unique and funny, right off the bat. What you can expect in this 50 minute show is ten of the best sketches The Shit Hot Shit Show have performed over the year, mixed in with a couple new sketches. Because they have been performing together for a while, the music and lighting was perfectly cued. I am a huge Kendrick Lamar fan, so including him wins all the points in my books as well.

If you are a fan of comedy this is a show not to be missed. You get completely different sketches and might have no clue where they are going, but, I will tell you, you will be laughing. The audience was loving every minute of this show. I moved quietly around the venue to see if their voices carried around the room at LIVE! on Elgin and they certainly did. I know that can be difficult with a large cast.

I will say that this show is not for children and if you are offended by swearing then this would not be a show for you. I was so impressed with the creativity of the sketches. I’ll be attending their future performances at The Improv Embassy on Rideau Street, where The Shit Hot Shit Show normally resides. I highly recommend it!

The Shit Hot Shit Show by Deborah Ring is playing at Live on Elgin (220 Elgin St) until Sunday June 24, 2018. Tickets cost $12 online and at the door. Visit for the show schedule and box office info.
