I ain’t afraid of no… demons? The only thing to fear in ExDEMONators is the potential to laugh too hard. It’s the all-female Ghost Busters spoof you didn’t realize you needed in your life, but trust me, you need this in your life.
The play features an incredibly strong female cast of flawlessly cliché characters, you’ve got the brains (Steph Goodwin), the badass (Carley Richards) and the blonde (Emma Hickey). The seemingly ill-prepared trio set off to capture their first demon while each looking to overcome their own personal shortcomings and failures along the way.
Stellar performances… The chemistry between our trio of female protagonists was the highlight of the show.
Their goal is two-fold: prove Mary-Lynne’s (Goodwin) academic thesis that demons do exist and show their small rural town in Ontario that they aren’t con artists.
Cue a series of comical encounters with a string of demon puppets, including a couple with some real peculiar powers (try 48 hours of horniness). I need to take a moment to applaud the amazing performance by Demon Puppeteers Gabriella Gadsby and Mike Kosowan for really embodying their unforgettable role. The sheer personality they breathe into each demon is pure whimsy.
The chemistry between our trio of female protagonists was the highlight of the show and resulted in stellar performances by Goodwin, Richards and Hickey.
The theatre was packed on opening night with not an empty seat in sight. If that’s any indication on how the rest of their performances will go, you’ll want to reserve your ticket now. If you’re looking for a little lighthearted comedic relief this Fringe season, ExDEMONators is right up your alley.
