The nomination deadline has passed, and 25 writers have been listed for the Frank Hegyi Award for Emerging Authors. Presented annually by the Ottawa Independent Writers, the Frank Hegyi Award alternates between fiction and non-fiction works each year. In 2018, the $500 cash prize will go to the author of a non-fiction book.
The award is open to permanent residents of Canada, all Canadian citizens living home or abroad, and nominees who have been published for the first time by a Canadian publisher, who have not already won a major literary award. Eligible books for this year’s prize were written by a single author in English and published between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2017.
A long list will be announced on August 15 and the short list will be announced on September 7. The award ceremony follows on September 18.
