Your Fit MindBody: New fitness studio & vegan eatery

Processed with VSCO with c1 presetWhether it’s the abundance of bike paths, or the many health-conscious restaurants, Ottawa residents are lucky to have plenty of ways to stay healthy. Most recently, health nuts in the capital can get excited about the newly opened fitness studio/vegan eatery located in the Crystal Beach area. Your Fit MindBody (YFMB) opened its doors in November and is already making waves as a place to get plant-based, locally sourced, delicious food. Plus, you can complement your healthy eating with a workout.

The people behind YFMB, including founder Tammy Robinson, believe that a healthy body starts with what you put in your mouth. Tammy and her staff offer a stacked menu full of wheatless and meatless options to fit any diet. On my first visit to YFMB, I was greeted with the warmest welcome and a complete walkthrough of every menu item. I was truly impressed by the selection of smoothies, meal boxes, soups and drinks. All the food is also made from scratch, which means that even though nutrition is the main goal behind every dish, they are by no means lacking in flavor!

Processed with VSCO with c1 presetI tried one of their classic Your Fit MindBody meal boxes and was amazed at the quality and quantity of the fresh and delicious ingredients. Every menu item is free of GMO’s, nitrates, and artificial flavouring and colors. Your Fit MindBody is also very conscious of where they source their ingredients, which was made evident when the nice woman working in the kitchen carefully explained that they get their micro greens from nearby Butterfly Sky Farm. Every menu item tells a story at YFMB and the staff is so passionate about spreading the joy of plant-based eating.

Beyond quick meals on the go, they also have a diverse line up of fitness classes. Your Fit MindBody runs on the belief that to be healthy you need to find ways to exercise that are tailored to your schedule and interests. For that reason, a typical day can have a wide range of classes such as yoga, pilates barre, strength training, ballroom dancing, martial arts, Zumba, and many others.

The new year holds a lot of exciting new offerings at Your Fit MindBody, including complete mind and body wellness coaching. This includes one-on-one sessions that guide clients in achieving their ideal self with the help of meal prep tips, exercise plans and moral support. Founder Tammy Robinson opened her business with the idea that there is so much out there on nutrition and fitness but it’s overwhelming to know where to begin. Her hope is that her staff of health experts ranging from holistic nutritionists to personal trainers can support and motivate people to make positive changes and be in charge of their health and wellbeing.

For those hoping to learn about the power of good food and exercise, Your Fit MindBody is also hosting a multitude of wellness and cooking workshops. The next workshop is on January 20th and host Ashlen Leonard, Registered Dietitian and Sports Dietitian, will focus on tips on how to gain energy and heal the body through eating the right food. The 2017 lineup of events and classes sure looks promising for those hoping to work towards health related resolutions!
