The written word is obviously the first and most important tool in any bloggers toolkit. Since we all spend years in classes learning how to craft words into paragraphs, the ability to pull together a solid piece of text is pretty widespread. But sometimes text is not the best way to share the stories, information or emotions you want to get across.
This March, Apt613 launched 613U as a new online forum where Apt613 contributors, Ottawa’s bloggers or anyone interested in digital media can pick up a new skill or two. We’ll be supplementing our online “courses” with in-person workshops over the next few months.
For our first workshop, Apt613 co-founder and editor Katrina Marsh will take you through three new tools for your bloggers toolkit: maps, polls/quizzes and slideshows. The 90-minute session will cover:
- When should bloggers consider using maps, polls/quizzes or slideshows?
- Some examples from how bloggers and websites from around the web are using these tools.
- An introduction to some easy-to-use apps to get you started on your own project.
The workshop is free and is happening on Thursday June 1, 2017 from 7pm to 8:30pm at Impact Hub Ottawa (123 Slater Street). Bring your laptop or tablet to practice your new skill right in the classroom. Space is limited, so reserve your spot here.
